About the Location

A Slice of History

Positioned in Lakewood, Colorado, Bicentennial Park spans 7 acres of green space. As you might guess from its name, the park was born during America's 200th birthday celebrations in 1976, marking two centuries since our founding fathers put quill to parchment on the Declaration of Independence.

One of the park's more intriguing features is a time capsule buried back in the 1990s. It's patiently waiting underground until the 2040s, when future generations will unearth whatever treasures and memories were sealed away decades earlier.

Where to Find It

Located within the Denver Federal Center complex, this park features expansive grassy areas and mature trees. At the heart of Bicentennial Park stands a charming gazebo bandstand that dates back to the original Bicentennial Celebration.

This covered structure represents both a visual anchor and a practical gathering spot for community events. Thanks to the generous tree canopy across the grounds, you'll come across plenty of shady spots to escape the Colorado sun on warmer days.

What You'll Find

Scattered across the park, you'll discover numerous picnic tables and grills that make this an ideal location for everything from family barbecues to casual lunch breaks. Benches are plentiful too, great for sitting back with a good book or simply watching the world go by.

The open grassy areas are good for frisbee games, picnics, or just relaxing. And for the environmentally conscious, recycling facilities are available throughout.

Moments of Reflection

Beyond recreation, Bicentennial Park houses two meaningful memorials. One pays tribute to those lost in the Oklahoma City bombing, while another honors federal employees who died in the line of duty. These thoughtful spaces add depth and perspective to the park's tranquil setting.

Community Hub

Bicentennial Park is used for family gatherings and community events. Its location within the Federal Center complex makes it accessible to both government employees and Lakewood residents.
