About Cottage Park
A Fresh Community Hangout
Cottage Park is one of Lakewood's newer green spaces, having opened its gates in July 2021. Nestled on S. Cody Street, this cozy 0.7-acre spot has quickly become a neighborhood favorite.
Before its transformation, this land was home to the Meadowlark Cottages and changed hands from the Jefferson County School District to the city back in 2000.
From Classrooms to Community Space
The park didn't just appear overnight. After a community engagement process in 2019, locals helped shape everything from the name to what would actually fill the space.
If you'd visited this spot before 2019, you would have found two 1960s buildings that once served as classrooms for South Lakewood Elementary School and later housed a preschool. These were demolished in October 2019, making way for the green space we enjoy today.
What You'll Find There
Cottage Park strikes that perfect balance between open areas for impromptu frisbee games and designated spots for more structured fun. The grassy areas invite you to spread out a blanket and soak up some Colorado sunshine.
Families particularly appreciate the playground with its slides and climbing structures. You can find plenty of benches surrounding the play area - great for parents who want to keep an eye on the kids while enjoying a coffee or good book.
One of the more unique features you'll encounter is a sandstone labyrinth - essentially a walking maze that offers a moment of peaceful contemplation or just a fun path to follow, depending on your mood.

Places to Gather
Central to the park is a charming gazebo that provides welcome shade on hot days and is an ideal spot for small gatherings or picnics. It's become something of a community meeting point since the park opened.
Across the grounds, you'll discover various seating areas that make this park a lovely spot to unwind after work or meet up with friends as the sun sets.
Artistic Touches
As you wander the paths, keep an eye out for the three art bollards installed throughout the park. These artistic elements add character and a touch of whimsy to your visit.
These thoughtful details help make Cottage Park stand out as a quiet retreat within Lakewood - not the biggest park around, but certainly one with its own distinct personality.
