Located in Thornton, Colorado, Sky Lake Park is a compact 2.3-acre oasis that packs a surprising punch. Opened in 2021, this pocket park was shaped by the voices of those who know best - the locals themselves. Though small in footprint, there's clearly been careful attention to detail in this community space.

Get Your Game On

The park's 5-A-Side soccer pitch features surrounding boards and netting that keep the ball in play (goodbye endless ball chasing!). It's a wonderful spot for quick matches with friends or impromptu neighborhood tournaments. Beyond the pitch, you can find an inviting turf area that's ideal for spreading out a blanket, enjoying a sandwich, or just soaking up some Colorado sunshine.

Where Community Happens

At the heart of Sky Lake sits a thoughtfully designed plaza with tiered seatwalls and pleasant shade. In the evening, soft lighting illuminates the space, making it suitable for neighborhood gatherings. The playground features rolling turf hills, a zipline that's popular with kids, net climbers, spinners, classic swings, and a hill slide built into the natural landscape. The zipline is somewhat unique compared to other parks in the area.

Nature's Touch

Sky Lake embraces Thornton's "Naturally Thornton" initiative with patches of native grasses and vegetation throughout. This approach helps conserve water by using low-water landscapes in less-used areas while maintaining green spaces in the more frequently used sections.

Art in the Park

Look up and you'll spot "Periodic Reflection," an intriguing 5-foot by 6-foot cube made of mirror-plated aluminum perched on an 8-foot metal pole. This art installation creates an interesting visual element in the park.

Good to Know

A portable restroom is available and regularly maintained. The park borders a busy street, so keep a close eye on little ones as they explore. Open daily from 5 AM to 11 PM, there's plenty of time to enjoy all that Sky Lake has to offer.
