About the Location
Park Overview
Sky Lake Park is a newly developed 2.3-acre pocket park located in Thornton, Colorado. Opened in 2021, this neighborhood park was designed based on community input to meet the needs of local residents.
Sports and Recreation
The park features a contained 5-A-Side soccer pitch complete with boards and netting, providing a dedicated space for small-sided soccer games. Adjacent to the soccer area is an open turf space suitable for picnics and casual recreational activities.
Community Spaces
At the heart of Sky Lake Park is a shaded central plaza with lighted tiered seatwalls, designed as a communal gathering space for the neighborhood. The playground area includes rolling turf hills, a zipline, net climbers, spinners, swings, and a hill slide, offering a variety of play options for children of different ages.
Natural Elements
In line with Thornton's "Naturally Thornton" initiative, parts of the park were planted with native grasses and vegetation. This approach aims to reduce water usage by converting low-use spaces to low-water landscapes while maintaining key usable turf areas.
Art Installation
The park also features "Periodic Reflection," a public art installation. This 5-foot by 6-foot cube structure made of mirror-plated aluminum sits atop an 8-foot metal pole, adding a unique visual element to the park.
