About the Location
Natural Spaces to Explore
Tucked away in Westminster, Waverly Acres Park spreads across 11.3 acres of dedicated public land, however only about an acre has been developed for recreation. The real charm of this park lies in its access to open spaces, where you can wander along Hylands Creek and Big Dry Creek, taking in the local wildlife and plants at your own pace.
If you're looking to stretch your legs a bit more, the park connects to the Big Dry Creek trail system, a regional trail fantastic for a morning jog, afternoon bike ride, or just a contemplative walk as you disconnect from the daily grind.
What You'll Find Here
The park offers a mix of paved and unpaved walking trails, so you can choose between a smooth stroll or something a bit more rugged depending on your mood. These paths meander through the park, creating peaceful routes whether you're fitting in some exercise or just enjoying some fresh air.
You'll also find open grassy areas around the park - ideal spots to throw down a blanket for a picnic, lose yourself in a good book, or let the kids run around and burn off some energy.
Changes on the Horizon
While Waverly Acres has been a neighborhood staple for years, it's faced some maintenance challenges, particularly with prairie dog activity. Thankfully, the City of Westminster hasn't turned a blind eye to these issues.
As of early 2024, the Parks, Recreation and Libraries department is crafting plans to breathe new life into the park, with changes expected to roll out in 2025. The upcoming improvements include a new playground, some much-needed shade structures, better accessibility, enhanced prairie dog management, and a refresh of the landscaping and overall park aesthetics.
