About the Location
A Bit of History
Back in 1968, Lady Bird Johnson herself inaugurated Kiwanis Park as Stamford's first urban renewal project. Since then, this little downtown spot has had some work done to keep it fresh and relevant for everyone who stops by.
More recently, the Stamford Downtown's Public Realm Enhancement Plan took on Kiwanis Park as a project worth investing in. Their goal? Improve the space while making it easier to walk between Atlantic Street and Summer Street.
Where to Find It
Tucked between Atlantic Street and Summer Street in downtown Stamford, Connecticut, Kiwanis Park offers a compact green retreat amid the urban landscape.
While you won't find sprawling meadows here, what you will discover is a thoughtfully designed urban gathering spot that provides a welcome break from the city bustle around it.
Art That Catches Your Eye
The park houses two impressive bronze sculptures created by the late Reuben Nakian, a world-renowned artist who once called Stamford home. These pieces add a touch of cultural significance to your park experience.
During the recent makeover, local muralist Lauren Clayton brought new life to the space with two striking murals. One creates a vibrant, colorful path guiding you from the Atlantic Street entrance toward the steps that lead to Summer Street.
The second mural features a 3D anamorphic marquee billboard design complemented by handprints that make for good photo opportunities.
