About the Location
Path to Adventure
Stretching roughly four miles from Pine Island Road to Kismet Parkway, Del Prado Linear Park offers a 10-foot-wide sidewalk on both sides of Del Prado Boulevard. The pathway comes alive after dark with lighting that makes evening strolls or workouts totally doable.
The path works well for jogging, rollerblading, biking, or simply enjoying a leisurely walk. The west side route loops around Lake Zurich and features a charming Rain Garden about a mile north of Pine Island Road.
Fair warning: while the surface is great for activities, you'll be alongside a busy road rather than immersed in nature. Some crossings at major intersections like Diplomat and Kismet Parkways can be a bit tricky to navigate due to traffic flow.
Get Fit, Have Fun
Between Diplomat and Kismet Parkways on the east side, you'll discover eight fitness stations where you can squeeze in some strength training or flexibility work while enjoying your time outdoors.
The fenced playground features a cushy artificial turf surface that provides extra protection for inevitable tumbles. A large canopy keeps most of the play area shaded, though the swings sit in the open and can heat up under the Florida sun. The playground includes options for different ages with accessible and traditional swing seats, a moon rock climbing component, and a cocoon spinning apparatus that children seem to enjoy.
Basketball enthusiasts can shoot some hoops at the fenced basketball court with its modern equipment. The well-maintained court works well for a quick pickup game or practicing your jump shot.
Comfort and Convenience
No need to cut your visit short when nature calls - the park maintains clean public restrooms that are regularly serviced. Parking is generally adequate for the size of the park, so finding a spot shouldn't be too stressful.
If fishing is your thing, Lake Zurich offers opportunities to catch bass and panfish. The lake offers nice sunset views, making it a good spot to wind down as the day ends.
One small drawback: seating is somewhat limited with just a few benches scattered throughout. A few more picnic tables would be a welcome addition, especially if you're bringing snacks for hungry kids after playtime.
Behind the Scenes
The park emerged as part of a road widening project from Pine Island Road to Kismet Parkway, cleverly incorporating recreational space alongside infrastructure improvements.
In 2018, Cape Coral residents voted to approve a $60 million expansion project for city parks and recreation, with Del Prado Linear Park among the beneficiaries. The expanded section opened in March 2023, bringing improvements like enhanced landscaping and lighting, better parking options (both accessible and traditional), and those handy public restrooms.
You'll find the park especially pleasant during weekday mornings when crowds are thinner. Parents particularly appreciate the security of the fenced playground when keeping an eye on little ones.
