About the Location
Natural Haven
Set in Davie, Florida on the west side of Nob Hill Road, Westridge Park offers a peaceful escape into nature. This isn't your typical Florida park - it's actually part of the original Pine Island Ridge, giving it a unique character in South Florida's predominantly flat terrain.
Spread across about 50 acres, what makes Westridge truly special is its elevation - rising 20 feet above sea level, it stands as one of the highest natural areas in the Town of Davie. From this modest but meaningful height, you can see views of the surrounding landscape that are unique to this area.
A Glimpse into the Past
There's something pretty remarkable about standing in a place with thousands of years of human history. Archaeological findings reveal that the southern tip of the park once served as a canoe landing for indigenous peoples who called this area home more than 5,000 years ago.
Fast forward to the 1950s, and the land was cleared for cattle grazing. Today, the Town of Davie is working on a reforestation plan to bring back some of the original tree canopy and restore the ecosystem.
Trails and Exploration
The park features a network of concrete trails suitable for hiking, biking, or horseback riding. These paths meander through the natural landscape, letting you disconnect from city life and reconnect with nature at your own pace.
Regardless of whether you're a dedicated nature enthusiast or just looking for a casual stroll, these trails offer a lovely way to experience this preserved piece of Florida's natural heritage. Many locals enjoy taking extended walks here, and you can even continue your journey to nearby Tree Tops Park via connecting paths.
Atmosphere and What to Know
One of the first things you'll notice are the beautiful old oak trees and palms that create a canopy of calm around the park. There's something deeply refreshing about finding this pocket of tranquility amid South Florida's urban sprawl.
A heads-up before you visit - there are no restroom facilities at Westridge Park. While you can find some picnic areas, don't expect playgrounds or other developed recreational facilities. This park intentionally maintains its natural, undeveloped character.
The park welcomes visitors 24 hours daily, so you can enjoy sunrise strolls or evening walks under the stars. Its proximity to residential neighborhoods makes it a convenient escape for locals. If you're planning a longer visit, remember to bring water, especially during Florida's warmer months.
