Natural Escape

Positioned in Davie, Florida, Wolf Lake Park spreads across 50 acres of peaceful neighborhood greenspace. The heart of the park is its expansive lake, encircled by a multipurpose trail that's well-suited for a leisurely stroll, a morning jog, or even a horseback adventure.

The dense canopy of tall Australian pine trees shades almost the entire trail, providing natural relief from the sun. This tree cover creates an atmosphere that feels quite different from typical South Florida landscapes - the pine-needle floor and dappled light are more reminiscent of a northern woodland.

Get Moving or Cast a Line

Equestrian enthusiasts will appreciate the wading area for horses, while fishing fans can settle in at several fishing spots dotting the lakeshore. Families often spend hours trying their luck with the rod and reel, with peacock bass and largemouth bass being common catches.

While swimming isn't allowed (sorry, no cooling off in the lake on hot days!), you can bring your own non-motorized boats and canoes to explore the water - though keep in mind that boating access occasionally gets temporarily suspended.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side

The approximately one-mile trail looping around the lake offers not only a flat walk. You'll encounter some gentle hills and elevation changes that add interest to your journey. Instead of the typical paved paths, this trail keeps things natural with turf, sand, and dirt surfaces that complement the rustic surroundings.

Just a heads-up: after rain, expect some muddy patches along the way. And since horses are frequent trail users, you'll want to watch your step for the occasional droppings they leave behind.

Nature's Living Gallery

Bring your camera and keep your eyes peeled! The park is home to a surprising variety of wildlife. Turtles sun themselves on logs, fish ripple the water's surface, and birds abound - from everyday ducks and ibises to woodpeckers, the occasional Egyptian goose, or even the brilliantly colored indigo bunting if you're lucky.

Squirrels scamper through the trees, and iguanas often make bold appearances, sometimes venturing close enough for a great photo op. While alligator sightings have been reported, they're relatively rare, so don't worry too much about unexpected reptilian encounters.

Comfort and Convenience

When hunger strikes, you'll come across several picnic areas with tables strategically placed along the trail. There's also a larger picnic section near the entrance by the restrooms. Planning something bigger? The park offers a pavilion complete with electricity and large grills, plus a small meeting room available for rent.

These facilities can host up to 90 people, making them ideal for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or community gatherings. Clean restrooms are conveniently located near the parking lot at the front of the park - always a welcome amenity during a day outdoors.

A Bit of Background

Wolf Lake Park became part of Davie's landscape in January 1990 when the town acquired it through its Open Space program. Today, it stands as a natural sanctuary amid suburban development. You can access the park via SW 76th Avenue or SW 73rd Avenue, and yes, there's parking available for horse trailers - a nod to the area's equestrian roots.

A park ranger lives on-site, helping maintain this little piece of nature. The park welcomes visitors daily from 9AM to 5PM.
