About the Location
Play & Recreation Spots
Found in Fort Lauderdale, this quiet place offers a surprising variety of outdoor fun. The star attraction? Those pickleball courts that everyone seems to be talking about these days.
The park features 6 dedicated outdoor pickleball courts with permanent lines and nets, thoughtfully converted from former tennis courts. These hard-surface courts give you plenty of room to enjoy this increasingly popular sport. The city added these courts in April 2022, and if you're looking to play during daytime hours, you'll rarely have to wait your turn. Just a heads up though - 3 of the 6 courts aren't perfectly level, so choose wisely if you're particular about your playing surface.
More Ways to Enjoy Your Visit
Pickleball isn't your thing? No worries. Benenson Park has other options too. There's a half-court basketball area where you can shoot some hoops or play a quick pickup game.
If you're in the mood for something more laid-back, the park's picnic areas provide perfect spots to spread out a blanket and enjoy lunch in the Florida sunshine. Got kids in tow? They'll love the playground with its climbing structures and swings - an easy way to burn off some energy while you catch a moment's rest on a nearby bench.
The Neighborhood Vibe
Benenson Park sits in the heart of the Riverland neighborhood, an area that joined Fort Lauderdale officially in 2002. Just five miles from downtown, this charming pocket of the city features mid-century ranch homes built back in the 1950s - many originally purchased by WWII veterans returning home.
The park itself is just over an acre and conveniently located next to a shopping plaza with a Winn Dixie - well-suited for grabbing snacks before your visit. Boating enthusiasts will appreciate that the neighborhood includes a boat ramp offering access to the Intracoastal Waterway and ocean beyond.
Local Treasure
Open daily from 8 AM to 7 PM, Benenson Park welcomes visitors of all ages and interests. The thoughtful layout makes it easy for different activities to coexist without feeling cramped.
Since the addition of those pickleball courts in 2022, the park has seen an uptick in visitors - a testament to pickleball's explosive growth as one of America's fastest-growing recreational activities. Whether you come for the sports, the playground, or just a quiet moment outdoors, this modest neighborhood park offers a variety of activities despite its small size.
