Florida's Champion Live Oak
The centerpiece of the park is the magnificent Cellon Oak, recognized as Florida's largest live oak in terms of crown spread. This impressive tree measures an average of 160 feet across, with a circumference of approximately 30 feet and a height of 91 feet.
Visitors are advised to observe a 20-foot perimeter around the tree to protect its extensive root system while admiring this co-champion live oak of the state.
Park History
The park is named after Ralph W. Cellon, the former landowner who owned the property before it was acquired by Alachua County. The park was established specifically to protect and preserve this remarkable tree, while allowing public access to view and appreciate its grandeur.
