About the Location

A Natural Oasis in Miami

Positioned in Miami, Florida, Biscayne Shores Park spans a peaceful 6.16 acres where recreation meets nature. This green space provides an escape from Miami's urban environment, with room to play, relax, or simply enjoy some fresh air.

A highlight of this park is its distinctive nature-based playground - one of the first of its kind in Miami-Dade County. Stretching across 10,800 square feet, the playground isn't your typical plastic and metal affair. At its heart stands a 5-foot earth mound where kids can climb on boulders made from local Miami oolite stone. There's an embankment slide built right into the natural landscape, along with an explorer dome, swings, charming bee and forest bug spring riders, and even a forest lake boat. It's a playground that encourages imagination alongside physical activity.

Shade and Natural Beauty

The landscaping within the park provides relief, especially on Miami's warmer days. Magnificent live oaks and gumbo limbo trees create a forest-like atmosphere with plenty of natural shade.

The plant selection is impressive and intentional - royal palms stand tall among milkweeds, Fakahatchee grass, and pineland crotons. Look for splashes of color from yellowtops and porterweeds, while gamagrass, giant ironweeds, and Boston ferns add texture and depth. This diverse greenery creates a cooler microclimate that makes afternoon visits more comfortable.

Community Gathering Spots

Beyond the playground, you'll come across picnic shelters and benches scattered throughout the grounds - meant for family lunches, birthday celebrations, or just enjoying a good book in the shade. The open grassy areas invite impromptu games of catch or peaceful meditation sessions.

The park's 3,013 square foot recreation center hosts various activities from arts and crafts to after-school programs and summer camps. It also houses practical necessities like park offices, restrooms, and storage space.

Stay Active or Just Relax

The exercise path winds through the landscaped areas, offering a scenic route for walking or jogging. With walkway lighting installed, you can safely enjoy early morning or evening strolls.

Arriving by car? No problem. The 20-vehicle lighted parking lot offers convenient access to all the park has to offer. The space is well-maintained, making for comfortable visits throughout the year.

Planning Your Visit

The park welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 7PM, with clean restrooms available on-site. Its location on the edge of a suburban area makes it easily accessible while still feeling like a retreat from city life.

And good news for dog owners - your leashed furry friends are welcome to join you as you explore this peaceful community space.
