About Peacock Park

A Piece of Miami History

Located in the heart of Coconut Grove, Peacock Park spreads across 9.4 acres of prime Miami real estate right on the shores of Biscayne Bay. This urban oasis blends recreation with a healthy dose of Florida history.

The land has quite a story to tell, dating all the way back to 1883 when it housed the Bay View House - later renamed the Peacock Inn - which holds the distinction of being the first hotel on mainland Florida south of Palm Beach. In 1934, the City of Miami scooped up the property and transformed it into the public park we know today.

The park got its current name in 1973 as a tribute to Charles and Isabella Peacock, the pioneering hoteliers who were among the area's first settlers. Their legacy lives on in this vibrant community space.

What You Can Do Here

Peacock Park has become a go-to spot for both locals and visitors looking to enjoy Miami's perfect weather. The expansive green spaces are ideal for picnic blankets and afternoon lounging.

The waterfront location is truly special - there's something magical about watching the sun set over Biscayne Bay with the gentle ocean breeze in your hair. A small boardwalk and pier extend into the water, offering perfect spots to cast a line if fishing is your thing (it's especially forgiving for beginners).

For the more active crowd, the park offers a baseball field, lit basketball courts, and soccer fields spread across both artificial turf and natural grass areas. Kids have their own dedicated playground that caters to various age groups.

The park really comes alive during community events. It plays a key role in the annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival, transforming into a venue for live music. Throughout the year, you can catch free concerts here, including performances by the Miami Symphony Orchestra - not a bad backdrop for some classical music!

The Community Center

Need a break from the sun? The park's recreation building offers indoor activities like ping-pong and foosball. There are also five computer workstations with free Wi-Fi available to the public - a particularly handy resource for students and teenagers.

The building houses public restrooms and drinking fountains complete with bottle fillers - a small but thoughtful touch when you're spending the day outdoors.

Family-Friendly Features

The playground is a nice feature for families. It has separate areas for the little ones (ages 2-5) and bigger kids (ages 5-12), featuring playground classics - slides, swings, and climbing structures.

Parents can take advantage of the shaded spots surrounding the play area to relax while keeping an eye on the kids. And if hunger strikes, Glass & Vine restaurant sits conveniently next to the playground - meant for grabbing a bite while the kids burn off energy.

The Wild Side

Keep your eyes peeled for some of the park's non-human residents! You might spot iguanas lounging in trees or sunning themselves on the ground. Squirrels are also frequent visitors, darting between trees and foraging.

Despite what the name might suggest, you won't find peacocks strutting around these days, but they were once a common sight on the grounds.

Planning Your Visit

The park welcomes visitors daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to enjoy all it has to offer. It's fully wheelchair accessible with designated parking spaces available.

Dog owners, rejoice - your furry friends are welcome here as long as they stay leashed. It's a popular spot for local dog walkers looking for a scenic route with bay views.
