Soundscape Park

Design and Landscape

Designed by Dutch landscape architecture firm West 8, the park opened in 2011 as part of the New World Symphony campus. It serves as an outdoor extension of the adjacent New World Center, a concert hall designed by architect Frank Gehry.

The park features a gently undulating topography with winding pathways made of white concrete mosaics. Veils of palm trees and other specimen plantings create an intimate oasis experience, concealing and revealing views throughout the space.

Innovative Technology

A key feature of Soundscape Park is its integration of technology for cultural events. The park includes a 7,000-square-foot projection wall on the exterior of the New World Center building.

This wall is used for WALLCAST concerts, which project live performances from inside the concert hall to audiences in the park. The audio system includes over 160 speakers strategically placed throughout the park, providing high-quality sound for these outdoor events.

Unique Elements

The park also includes custom-designed elements such as "ballet bars" that house speaker systems, a projection tower for video equipment, and "media hydrants" that emit sound in various locations.

These features are carefully integrated into the landscape to maintain the park's aesthetic while providing cutting-edge audiovisual capabilities.

Community Functions

Soundscape Park serves multiple functions for the community. It offers a space for relaxation and informal gatherings, hosts cultural events like concerts and film screenings, and provides a venue for community activities such as yoga classes.

This 2.5-acre urban green space creates the illusion of a park much larger than its actual size through its thoughtful landscaping design.
