About the Location
Natural Beauty
Positioned in the heart of Orlando, Lake Como Park is a little piece of tranquility that locals treasure. This 23-acre park sits at the corner of Lake Como Circle and Bumby Avenue, centered around its namesake Lake Como - though between us, it's more of a pond than a lake, but charming nonetheless.
The park is situated in the Lake Como neighborhood, providing a natural space surrounded by residential streets. Towering oak trees create a natural canopy, while seasonal azaleas and crape myrtles add splashes of color all year long. Even in Florida's summer heat, the shade trees make spending time here relatively comfortable.
History & Features
Dating back to the mid-20th century, Lake Como Park has been a treasured green space for Orlando residents for generations. In 1993, the park got a bit of a makeover with the addition of a plaza, walkways, and footbridges that made the whole place more accessible and, frankly, more photogenic.
Keep an eye out for the lion sculpture - a gift from the MacBride family back in 1985 that's become something of a local landmark. There's also a quirky pink bunny statue that doubles as a Pokémon GO EX Raid eligible Gym (a nice bonus for the gamers among us).
Recreation & Wildlife
The park's walking and jogging trails circle around the lake, with views that can make exercise more enjoyable. A full loop takes about 10 minutes - well-suited for a quick workout or a leisurely stroll when you need to clear your head.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the diverse wildlife that calls this place home. The park is a haven for various bird species, making it ideal for casual birdwatching or photography. Ducks are everywhere here, with Muscovy ducks often paddling around with their fluffy ducklings in tow. If you're patient, you'll likely spot turtles sunning themselves along the water's edge.
Amenities & Community Use
Thoughtfully placed benches line the walking path, providing perfect spots to sit and take in the scenery or catch your breath. There are picnic areas available too, although be prepared to make some feathered friends - the local birds aren't shy about checking out your lunch.
Dog owners will appreciate that the park is dog-friendly, with conveniently placed pet waste stations throughout. The park really comes alive during community events, particularly around Halloween when neighbors gather to celebrate together.
Visitor Information
Lake Como Park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 11PM. You should know there's no dedicated parking lot here, so you'll need to find street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Just be mindful of the residents when you park - nobody likes having their driveway blocked. Also worth noting: there are no public restrooms available, so plan accordingly.
