About the Location

Historic Significance

Lake Lorna Doone Park is a 12-acre historic community park located in Orlando, Florida, between the neighborhoods of Westfield and Parramore. The park is situated on West Church Street, just north of Camping World Stadium.

The park holds historical significance as the site of the first integrated Little League Baseball game played in the South in 1955. This event marked an important milestone in the civil rights movement and the integration of public spaces in Florida.

Recent Renovation

In 2021, Lake Lorna Doone Park reopened after an $8 million renovation project, which was made possible through a public-private partnership between the City of Orlando, Florida Citrus Sports, and the National Football League. This extensive renovation has transformed the park into what is now referred to as the "Jewel of the West Side" of Orlando.

Park Features

Lake Lorna Doone Park offers a variety of recreational facilities and features for visitors of all ages. The renovation included the addition of new amenities and the improvement of existing ones, creating a more inclusive and accessible space for the community.

The park now boasts Orlando's first "Inclusive Playground," designed to accommodate children of all abilities. The park's central feature is the lake itself, which provides a scenic backdrop for various activities.

A walking loop surrounds the lake, offering visitors a peaceful path for exercise and enjoyment of the natural surroundings. The renovation also included the installation of a focal-point fountain in the center of Lake Lorna Doone, serving as a visually appealing centerpiece for the park.
