About the Location

A Piece of Orlando History

Tucked between the Westfield and Parramore neighborhoods, Lake Lorna Doone Park spans 12 acres of green space along West Church Street, just a stone's throw from Camping World Stadium. More than just a pretty place, this park carries a powerful legacy as the site of the first integrated Little League Baseball game played in the South back in 1955 - a meaningful milestone in Florida's civil rights journey and the push toward integrated public spaces.

From Forgotten to Flourishing

In 2021, Lake Lorna Doone emerged from an $8 million makeover, thanks to a collaboration between Orlando's city government, Florida Citrus Sports, and the NFL. This transformation has completely revitalized the space.

The difference between old and new is night and day. As one longtime visitor put it, the park "has made a complete turn around" from its previous state. What stands now is a clean, well-maintained space that has become a popular gathering spot for the surrounding neighborhoods.

What You'll Find

The renovated Lake Lorna Doone Park offers something for everyone. At its heart is Orlando's first "Inclusive Playground," thoughtfully designed for children of all abilities. Parents will appreciate that it's fully fenced with a single entry point for safety and regularly monitored by staff. The playground setup is comprehensive and thoughtfully designed.

The park's namesake lake creates a peaceful backdrop for your visit. A walking loop circles the water, great for a morning jog or evening stroll. Adding to the scenery is a focal-point fountain that rises from the center of the lake.

Get Moving

Basketball enthusiasts can shoot hoops at six courts that stay open into the evening hours. The courts offer a nice bonus: a great view of Orlando's skyline as your backdrop.

One of the park's more unique offerings is its free mini-golf course - just remember to bring your own putter and ball if you want to play a round. It's a surprisingly fun addition you don't often find in public parks.

When Florida's heat kicks in, the splash pad becomes the place to be. The chlorinated water features provide welcome relief on hot days, and like the playground, this area is gated with seating nearby for adults keeping watch. Conveniently, it's also close to the restrooms.

More to Explore

Fitness buffs will appreciate the outdoor gym equipment scattered around the grounds, while fishing enthusiasts can cast a line from the fishing docks extending over the lake.

When it's time to relax, multiple picnic areas offer places to gather, including some with built-in checkers tables. There's plenty of shade and seating for those moments when you just want to sit back and take in the surroundings.

The park's clean restrooms are centrally located between the splash pad, mini-golf, and playground - they're well-maintained and regularly checked by staff.

A community garden is taking shape, adding yet another dimension to this multifaceted space. And yes, there's plenty of parking available when you visit.
