About the Location
Waterfront Escape
Nestled at the southernmost tip of Pinellas County, Katherine B. Tippetts Park offers a peaceful retreat along the Tampa Bay waterfront. It's part of the Greater Pinellas Point neighborhood, which is locally famous for its charming "Pink Streets" area.
From this quiet spot, you can enjoy panoramic views of Tampa Bay and the Skyway Bridge. If you're looking for a bit of magic, visit in the evening when the bridge lights up, creating a stunning backdrop against the night sky. The park's location makes it a great spot to reconnect with nature and maybe catch a glimpse of local wildlife going about their day.
A Legacy of Conservation
The park honors Katherine Bell Tippetts, a remarkable woman who left her mark on St. Petersburg's history. More than just a businesswoman, Tippets was a trailblazing politician, writer, and passionate conservationist who significantly shaped the city and helped protect its natural environment.
In 1922, she founded the St. Petersburg chapter of the National Audubon Society and worked tirelessly to establish wildlife sanctuaries throughout Florida. Breaking barriers, she became the first woman elected to the Florida Legislature, where she served for an impressive 30 years.
Simple Pleasures by the Bay
The waterfront setting makes this park ideal for fishing, birdwatching, or simply sitting back and soaking in the beautiful bay views. There's plenty of open grassy space that's well-suited for tossing a frisbee or enjoying a leisurely afternoon stroll.
Many locals come here to witness the spectacular sunsets over Tampa Bay or to walk their four-legged friends. Just remember that dogs need to stay on leash, and you'll need to clean up after your pet.
Natural Comfort
The park features several tree canopies that provide much-needed shade from Florida's intense sunshine. These shady spots not only offer relief on hot days but also create picture-perfect settings for photography enthusiasts.
The open space by the water creates a calming atmosphere that's hard to find elsewhere in the city. Note that this is a simple community park - there are no restrooms, picnic areas, or designated parking spaces available.
Neighborhood Charm
The surrounding area showcases an interesting mix of architectural styles, from 1920s havens to mid-century modern and Spanish revival homes. This diverse architectural landscape enhances the neighborhood's unique character and complements the natural beauty that makes this little park so special.
