About Vinoy Park

Waterfront Wonder

Perched along St. Petersburg's downtown waterfront, Vinoy Park spans a generous 11.6 acres of public green space. Named after its neighbor, the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club (an iconic 1925 establishment), this park offers some of the most breathtaking views in the city. From here, you can see Tampa Bay, the St. Petersburg Pier, and the city's skyline. If you're lucky - and honestly, it happens pretty often - you'll spot dolphins and manatees gliding through the waters just off the seawall.

What's On Offer

The park's sprawling green spaces give you plenty of room to breathe, whether you're looking to toss a frisbee, set up a picnic, or just find a quiet spot to read. It's a place popular with both locals and visitors.

For the more active crowd, the park features beach volleyball courts and tennis courts that don't require reservations - just bring your gear and play. A scenic walking path hugs the waterfront, ideal for your morning jog or evening stroll as the city lights begin to twinkle.

A local favorite? Bringing hammocks to string between the sturdy trees near the bay. It's quite relaxing to sway in a hammock with the water just yards away. Early birds take note: the sunrises here are absolutely worth setting an alarm for, and morning parking is a breeze compared to later hours.

Natural Moments

The wildlife viewing here goes beyond the occasional bird sighting. Dolphins regularly come close to the seawall to feed, sometimes just a few feet away from where you're standing. While less common, manatees also make appearances that never fail to cause excitement among parkgoers.

Tucked away within the park is a charming plant sanctuary - a little brick-lined path winding through what feels like a secret garden, with informative labels identifying the various species. And don't be surprised if the park's squirrels approach you with curious looks; they've grown quite comfortable around humans over the years.

Gathering Place

Vinoy Park transforms during the year as it hosts some of St. Petersburg's most popular events. From the finger-licking St. Petersburg's Ribfest to the soulful sounds of Tampa Bay's Blues Festival, the laid-back vibes of Reggae Rise Up, and the creative displays at Mainsail Art Festival - the park's calendar stays pretty full. It also represents the starting point for various triathlons throughout the year.

During these festivals, the normally peaceful grounds buzz with food vendors, music stages, and crowds of happy attendees. The layout with the bay as a backdrop works well for concerts, particularly at sunset or under a full moon.

Creature Comforts

You can find restrooms conveniently located near both the palm arboretum and playground areas - a simple but essential amenity for extended visits. Picnic areas are scattered throughout, with the prime spots offering uninterrupted water views.

Dog owners, rejoice! The park is extremely dog-friendly, with four-legged visitors always welcome on the waterfront paths (on leash, of course). And if your pup needs to run free, there's a dedicated dog park just a short walk away. The park's maintenance team keeps trash bins easily accessible around the grounds.

Finding Your Way

Situated in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg, Vinoy Park forms part of the city's impressive two-mile waterfront park system. Open daily from 6AM to 11PM, it accommodates early risers and night owls alike.

You'll find the park just north of the St. Petersburg Pier, making it easy to visit both in a single outing. While there is a sizable parking lot, it can fill up quickly during weekend events - so arriving early or considering alternative transportation might save you some circling time.
