22nd Street Park
About 22nd Street Park
A Centuries-Old Natural Haven
Positioned in Tampa lies 22nd Street Park, home to some seriously impressive live oak trees. And we're not talking about your average backyard oaks - some of these majestic giants are believed to be over 300 years old. Just imagine all the history these trees have witnessed!
What makes this spot extra special is its location near the Hillsborough River, creating this perfect pocket of tranquility. It's one of those places where you can actually hear yourself think - a rare find when you need a break from Tampa's urban energy.
Disc Golf Through the Giants
The park features an 18-hole disc golf course that winds its way through those ancient oaks. It's quite something to play among trees that have stood since before the United States was even a country.
Technically, the course features 9 baskets with 18 concrete tees, giving you a complete 18-hole experience. The layout uses the natural landscape to create interesting challenges. If you're new to disc golf, you might find it a bit demanding, though the setting does provide a nice distraction. The first hole is particularly wide open - a good warm-up before navigating around those massive trunks.
You'll find plenty of benches scattered throughout the course when you need a breather, plus some picnic tables ideal for a mid-game snack or lunch break.
Beyond Disc Golf
Not into throwing discs? No problem. The park houses a well-maintained ball diamond complete with dugouts, lights, and bleachers. This field has been active for years, hosting local teams and family spectators through many seasons.
Between the disc golf course and ball field, you'll come across generous open grassy areas that are great for whatever activity strikes your fancy. Dog owners particularly appreciate these spaces - they're ideal for letting your four-legged friends stretch their legs and explore.
A Community Cornerstone
Since its establishment in 2012, 22nd Street Park has become a neighborhood gathering spot where the community comes together. The picnic areas offer perfect settings for family lunches or catch-ups with friends under the shade of those ancient oaks.
Practical note: the park includes restroom facilities that are kept clean and in good working order - always a plus when you're planning to spend a few hours outdoors.
With its blend of natural beauty and recreational options, 22nd Street Park continues to be one of those special places that makes Tampa feel like home.
