About the Location
Historic Fire Tower
The historic Hamner Fire Tower sits at the center of this small park, offering a glimpse of Florida's past and recognized as a Hillsborough County Historic Landmark in 1995. Built in 1937, this tower wasn't just for show - it served as a faithful fire lookout for the Florida Division of Forestry for many years.
Natural Setting
The park features grassy areas and native trees throughout its grounds. Surrounded by a wilderness preserve, it offers a peaceful peek into Florida's natural landscape without having to venture far from the city.
The shade trees provide welcome relief on hot Tampa days and help create a tranquil spot away from city noise. The flat, well-kept grounds make this an easy place to wander and reconnect with nature.
Walking Trails
If you're looking for a quick nature fix, the short walking trails here wind through wooded areas without demanding too much of your time or energy. They're level and well-maintained, so almost everyone can enjoy them.
Many locals have made this park their go-to quiet retreat - a little pocket of countryside vibes that somehow exists just minutes from urban Tampa.
Dog-Friendly Area
Dog parents take note: this park is a hit with the four-legged crowd. The level terrain and shaded pathways make it especially kind to senior pups who might not be up for more challenging hikes. The trails offer plenty of interesting smells and exploration opportunities for curious canines.
Just remember to bring your own waste bags, as none are provided at the park. There are trash cans available, so please clean up after your furry friends.
Visitor Information
You'll find parking just off North Boulevard on the right side. It's pretty basic - nothing fancy here - so take care when pulling in or out, especially since North Boulevard can get busy.
Keep in mind that Hamner Tower Park is unstaffed and doesn't offer restrooms or other facilities. You'll want to plan accordingly and remember to leave no trace of your visit behind.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 8AM to 8PM.
