Recreational Facilities

Nestled in the heart of Sandy Springs, Georgia, Hammond Park spans a generous 13.7 acres of community-focused green space. The park offers a variety of activities, whether you're looking to break a sweat or just enjoy some fresh air.

One of the park's standout features is the Hammond Park Gymnastics Center, easily accessible from the Hammond Drive parking area. If outdoor activities are more your style, you'll appreciate the newly turfed multi-purpose athletic field complete with lights and bleachers. It's meant for soccer and lacrosse during the day, while evening hours often see the field transform for organized kickball games - a fun sight to behold as the sun sets!

Sports Courts

For ball sports enthusiasts, Hammond Park features two fenced-in full-sized basketball courts with lighting for those evening games. Tennis players can take advantage of four well-maintained, lighted tennis courts.

The pickleball scene is particularly active here. The six dedicated courts (overlaid on the tennis courts and one basketball court) are typically buzzing with activity from morning till night. What makes the pickleball experience special is the thoughtful paddle queue system and the courts' organization by skill level. The pickleball community here is particularly welcoming - whether you're just figuring out how to hold a paddle or you're ready for competitive play.

Playgrounds

Hammond Park features two distinct playground areas for children. The toddler playground is specially designed for the 2-5 age group, featuring multiple slides, swings, and climbing structures on a forgiving rubber surface. Parents appreciate the partial shade from nearby trees and the fully gated play area that keeps curious toddlers safely contained.

For older kids (ages 5-12), there's a second playground with wood chip ground cover, complete with exciting slides and climbing structures that challenge growing bodies and minds. Note that both playgrounds are a bit of a trek from the restrooms, so plan accordingly.

Picnic Areas & Community Building

When it's time to gather, Hammond Park offers two excellent picnic pavilions. The large pavilion sits adjacent to the community building, while the small pavilion is positioned near the upper playground. Both come equipped with lights, electrical outlets, picnic tables, and grills - all the basics for an outdoor get-together.

For indoor events, the Hammond Park Community Building can be reserved for gatherings of up to 50 people. It's a practical space with bathrooms, a kitchenette, and tables and chairs ready for your use.

Walking Trails & Amenities

The park's paved walking trail meanders through the grounds with enough elevation changes to get your heart rate up. While it's not a marathon-length path, it's ideal for a quick jog or a peaceful stroll to clear your mind.

One of the park's quieter charms is its wildlife, particularly the diverse bird population. Bring your binoculars If you're into birdwatching - you might be surprised by what you'll spot!

Amenities & Parking

Getting to and from Hammond Park is hassle-free with two convenient parking areas. The Hammond Drive lot offers approximately 150 spaces, while the Glenridge Drive entrance provides about 30 spots. Both include accessible parking for those who need it. Modern convenience meets outdoor recreation with the park's EV charging stations - a forward-thinking touch for electric vehicle owners.

When nature calls, you can find clean restrooms near the basketball courts, along with a water fountain to keep you hydrated. The facilities are well-maintained - about as good as public park restrooms get.

Evening Activities

Unlike many parks that close at sunset, Hammond Park stays open until 11 PM with excellent lighting throughout, making it a great option for night owls. Perhaps the most unexpected treat is the stunning skyline view that emerges after dark. There's something magical about playing sports or gathering with friends under the night sky with city lights twinkling in the distance.
