Park Overview

Positioned on Savannah's far south side near Armstrong, L. Scott Stell Park spans nearly 94 acres of green space - a spacious location offering a peaceful escape from city life. This spacious retreat has seen ongoing renovations and facility upgrades in recent years that are gradually improving the park's facilities.

What's particularly nice about this park is its laid-back vibe - it's typically less crowded than some of Savannah's more central parks. Instead, you'll find a quiet atmosphere that offers a more peaceful experience.

Sports Facilities

If you're into sports, you'll come across plenty to keep you active here. The park features multiple baseball and softball fields - some with lights for evening games - that occasionally host USSSA tournaments and i9 Sports youth programs.

Tennis players can take advantage of eight lighted tennis courts, while basketball enthusiasts have their own lighted courts for pickup games. Recent additions include new buildings for racquetball and other court sports, expanding the athletic options available.

For those who prefer a more independent workout, there's a 1.0-mile paved track with an integrated fitness course - good for a morning jog or an afternoon power walk. Just note that some sections of the trail may be a bit uneven, so watch your step.

Natural Features

The park features a fresh water lake stocked with fish - what locals often refer to as a "great little fishing hole." Regardless of whether you're a serious angler or just want to relax with a line in the water, the lake offers a tranquil setting for fishing adventures.

The park provides both a boat ramp and a fishing pier, making it easy to access the water. As you explore, you might spot some local wildlife, including the occasional softshell turtle sunning itself near the shore.

Beautiful mature trees dot the landscape, casting welcome shade during Georgia's warmer months and creating natural canopies around the park. These trees not only look gorgeous but help maintain that peaceful natural environment that makes the park special.

Planning a family gathering or community event? The park offers three pavilions available for rent, including a large covered picnic area that's excellent for birthday parties, family reunions, or casual get-togethers.

Kids will enjoy the playground, though it's somewhat modest in size and tucked away in the front right corner of the park. Dog owners will appreciate the dedicated dog exercise area where four-legged family members can stretch their legs and socialize.

The park also features community gardens, however you might have to do a bit of exploring to find them as signage is minimal. When nature calls, you'll come across restrooms and water fountains conveniently located near the center of the baseball diamonds.
