Scenic Waterside Path

The path through the Ala Wai Promenade is embraced by magnificent Chinese banyan trees (Ficus microcarpa) that create natural archways along your walk. These gentle giants do double duty - they're not only beautiful but also provide welcome shade that can make Hawaii's warm days much more bearable.

This linear park runs alongside the Ala Wai Canal in Honolulu, stretching about a third of a mile from Kalakaua Avenue to Ala Moana Boulevard and creating a pocket of calm in the heart of the city.

Water Activities and Views

As you stroll along, the Ala Wai Canal opens up beside you, often dotted with canoe paddlers practicing their craft. The middle section has organically evolved into a casual meet-up spot for local dog owners, adding a friendly neighborhood vibe to the space. Note that you won't find restrooms or drinking fountains along the way, so plan accordingly before setting out for your walk.
