Paki Community Park
About Paki Community Park
Recreational Facilities
Found in the heart of Waikiki, this community park blends recreational fun with natural beauty. It sits right near the Honolulu Zoo, offering a cool, shaded retreat under several massive monkeypod trees at the foot of Diamond Head.
If you're into sports, you'll discover a couple of lined volleyball courts here (just remember to bring your own nets). There's also a basketball court for those who prefer shooting hoops. Both locals and tourists enjoy these facilities, and the Department of Parks & Recreation runs various sports programs, including volleyball and basketball classes for the kiddos.
Children's Area
Families flock to this park for its playground area, which is designed with 5-12 year olds in mind. The play structure features two slides, monkey bars, and climbing ladders. It's kept in good shape and usually free from graffiti - a big reason why local families love it so much.
One of our favorite features has to be the swings (including one with a toddler seat). Swing high enough and you'll catch glimpses of Diamond Head - not a bad view for a playground! And being next to the Waikiki Fire Station adds an unexpected bonus for little ones who get excited when fire engines come and go.
Park Amenities
There's a generous open field that's good for frisbee, informal soccer games, or just running around. You'll find several picnic tables and benches scattered throughout, making it easy to enjoy an outdoor meal or gathering. The grassy areas also make for perfect impromptu picnic spots.
Those monkeypod trees aren't just pretty - they provide abundant shade that keeps the park comfortable even on hot Hawaiian days. An unexpected treat? Sometimes you can spot giraffes peeking over the zoo fence, which is pretty magical for both kids and adults.
Community Activities
This isn't just a park - it's a community hub. The park pavilion hosts Department of Parks & Recreation classes and Summer Fun programs (though you'll need to register for these).
Many locals have grown up playing in this park. Free classes ranging from art to chess to various sports programs for children are offered regularly. It's a place where tourists can experience a genuine piece of Honolulu life alongside residents.
Facilities
Yes, there are public restrooms - they work fine but might not always be the cleanest. That said, the park is generally better maintained than many others in the Waikiki area, which is why families often choose it over alternatives.
Dog owners will be happy to know the park is dog-friendly, providing a welcome green space for four-legged friends in this urban setting.
