About Garfield Park
A Touch of History
Located in Aurora, Illinois, Garfield Park is a 28-acre green haven with some serious history behind it. As one of the city's legacy parks, it offers both recreational amenities and space for community gatherings.
Get Your Game On
The park houses two Little League fields - Dolan and Andrews - where young baseball players practice and compete. If baseball isn't your thing, there's plenty of open green space for impromptu frisbee games or just lounging with a good book.
For other sports activities, Challenge your friends to a match on the basketball and tennis courts, try your hand at horseshoes, or dive for that perfect set on the sand volleyball courts. And when you're planning that family reunion or birthday celebration, the spacious picnic pavilion is available for rent.
Family-Friendly Fun
The park features a playground with climbing structures, slides, and swings for children. Conveniently placed restrooms and picnic tables mean you can easily make a day of it. Just know that sometimes the restrooms might be primarily used by baseball teams during game days.
The park offers a gravel parking lot, so you won't have to worry about finding a spot for your car.
Picnic Paradise
The picnic areas at Garfield Park are particularly charming - picture-perfect spots to spread out a blanket and enjoy some fresh air dining. The well-maintained grounds create a peaceful backdrop for everything from a simple sandwich to an elaborate spread.
Bring Your Four-Legged Friends
Dog lovers, rejoice! Garfield Park is dog-friendly, giving you and your furry companion a place to stretch your legs together. Remember to bring those doggie bags to help keep the park beautiful for everyone.
Looking Ahead
Exciting changes could be coming to Garfield Park! The City of Aurora has applied for a $600,000 grant through the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Program (OSLAD) to give the park some modern upgrades.
The wish list includes an inclusive playground where kids of all abilities can play together, refreshing splash pads for those hot summer days, street soccer courts, pickleball courts (because, yes, the pickleball craze has reached Aurora too), and accessible pathways. These improvements aim to make this historic park even more welcoming for everyone who visits.
