About Gross Park
A Little Urban Oasis
Gross Park bears the name of Theodore Gross, a dedicated soul who supervised Chicago playgrounds for an impressive 44 years. Established in 1952, this completely enclosed 1.56-acre green space in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood sits at 2708 W Lawrence Ave.
In the midst of the city's hustle and bustle, the park creates a much-needed breathing space with its thoughtful mix of recreational areas and community spots. The enclosed nature of the park makes it a safe haven for all who visit.
Beyond a Park
Gross Park tells a story of Chicago's growth and commitment to its neighborhoods. It emerged from the city's push to create accessible recreational spaces where residents could enjoy leisure time close to home.

Over the decades, the park has evolved through several makeovers, with significant renovations in the late 1970s and again in the 1990s. It even bounced back from a challenging period when the Asian long-horned beetle claimed many of its trees in the late 1990s - a testament to the park's resilience.
What You'll Find Here
If you're looking to shoot some hoops, kick a ball around, or let the kids burn off energy, Gross Park has you covered. The basketball facilities attract players of all skill levels, while the junior soccer field offers space for friendly matches and practice sessions. Families with young ones particularly appreciate the spacious playground with its safety-conscious rubberized surfaces.
Need a breather? The park's mature shade trees create perfect spots for relaxation, complemented by plenty of benches and picnic tables. You can easily keep an eye on playing children while enjoying a moment of calm under the leafy canopy.
