About the Location

Recreational Attractions

The Skating Ribbon is a standout feature of this park - a quarter-mile loop that transforms with the seasons. In winter, it becomes a magical ice skating experience with the Chicago skyline as your backdrop (just a heads-up: booking online reservations ahead of time is smart, especially when weekends and holidays roll around). Once spring hits, the same ribbon becomes a great path for rollerblading and scootering. The ribbon wraps around some pretty impressive rock-climbing walls that reach up to 40 feet high and accommodate climbers whether you're just starting out or practically part mountain goat.

If you're looking for something a bit more leisurely, the 18-hole mini-golf course offers a fun Chicago-themed experience with obstacles modeled after iconic city landmarks. And for those who prefer a bit more action, the tennis and pickleball courts are ready and waiting for your best serves.

Children's Play Garden

The Play Garden is a three-acre space with a storybook-inspired design. Drawing inspiration from classics like Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this imaginative space features everything from slides and climbing towers to rope bridges and winding paths. Safety is thoughtfully built in, with different zones designed for specific age ranges (typically 2-5 and 5-12 years).

Kids absolutely love the lighthouse slide, the whale structure, and the various climbing challenges scattered throughout. The play areas strike that perfect balance between sunny spots and shaded retreats, making it comfortable even when Chicago brings the heat. Visitors will often spot security personnel keeping a watchful eye on the area - always nice to see when the little ones are running around.

Peaceful Spaces

Amid all the activity, the Cancer Survivors' Garden offers a quiet, contemplative space that feels worlds away from the energy elsewhere in the park. The picnic groves and manicured lawns create perfect spots to spread out a blanket and enjoy some downtime. Despite being in downtown Chicago's heart, you can find corners that feel somewhat removed from city life. The incorporation of native plants creates landscapes that change with the seasons while contributing to the park's ecological value.

Facilities and Location

The park's Fieldhouse is command central, offering everything from restrooms and lockers to rental services for skating gear and climbing equipment. While there are permanent restroom facilities, during busy times you'll also find portable toilets available. The park is open year-round, with each season bringing its own highlights - from ice skating in winter to vibrant blooming gardens in spring.

Maggie Daley Park spans 20 acres in Chicago's Loop community area. Opened in December 2014, it replaced the former Daley Bicentennial Plaza and is managed by the Chicago Park District.

The park connects directly to Millennium Park via the elegant BP Pedestrian Bridge, creating an expansive urban oasis. From almost anywhere in the park, you'll catch breathtaking views of Chicago's iconic skyline and Lake Michigan. One small tip for summer visitors: consider bringing bug spray, as mosquitoes can be particularly enthusiastic in certain areas of the park.
