About the Location

A Historic Recreational Haven

Wing Park spans an impressive 121 acres and is deeply rooted in Elgin's history. Opened to the public in 1903, it was established on land donated by William Wing, a prominent local attorney.

The park combines rolling terrain, wooded areas, and modern recreational facilities, making it a versatile space for visitors of all ages.

Entertainment and Performance

One of the park's standout features is the Wing Park Bandshell, which serves as a hub for community musical performances during the summer months.

Sports and Recreation

Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the park's basketball courts, tennis courts, and sand volleyball courts. The park is home to a 9-hole golf course, the oldest municipally owned course in Illinois, which opened in 1908 and retains its original layout.

For families, there is a large playground and the Wing Park Family Aquatic Center, featuring a recreation pool, diving well, water slides, and play structures.

The park also supports local baseball with a full little league complex.

Picnic Facilities

Wing Park is well-equipped for picnics, offering two rentable shelters. Shelter 1, located near the playground, has seating for 70 people and is equipped with electricity.

Shelter 2, near the golf course, also seats 70 but without electrical facilities. Both shelters are situated amidst the park's picturesque natural surroundings.

Trails and History

A paved path runs through the park, accommodating walkers and cyclists. The golf course, designed by Thomas Bendelow, was built to make golf accessible to the general public, marking a significant step in the democratization of the sport.

The park's natural and historical charm, combined with its comprehensive facilities, ensures its continued popularity among residents and visitors.
