About the Location
A Neighborhood Space
Situated in Evansville, Indiana, Fulton Park is one of those sweet little green spaces that makes a neighborhood feel like home. Nothing fancy or overwhelming here - just a welcoming spot where families can spread out without fighting crowds. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think.
With plenty of trees and open space, this park has become something of a community living room. And if safety's on your mind, there's a firehouse right next door - not that you'll need it, but it's nice to know it's there.
Recreational Facilities
Basketball fans, you're in luck! The newly renovated basketball court is smooth and well-maintained - meant for shooting hoops with friends or challenging your teenagers to a game. On most afternoons, you can find a mix of neighbors showing off their skills or just getting some exercise.
Need a break from the sun? The park's picnic shelter with tables offers a cool retreat for lunch or an impromptu gathering. It's nothing extravagant, but does the job nicely (though a few more tables wouldn't hurt).
The open grassy areas are kept in good shape - ideal for kicking around a soccer ball, throwing a frisbee, or simply sprawling out with a good book on a sunny day.
Playground Features
Parents of younger kids will appreciate the playground that's scaled perfectly for the little ones. Without the crowds of larger parks, toddlers can explore at their own pace while you actually relax a bit instead of constantly scanning for bigger kids barreling through.
The kids especially love the vintage bouncy ride-ons - those charming, springy horses and animals that are increasingly hard to find in modern playgrounds. Sometimes the classics really are the best!
Looking ahead, the entire playground is getting a makeover, scheduled to be completed by June 2025. It's nice to see the city investing in these smaller community spaces.
Visitor Experience
Fulton Park isn't trying to be the biggest or flashiest park in town, and that's precisely its charm. The grounds are clean, there's plenty of parking along the perimeter, and you don't need to hike half a mile from your car to reach the playground.
Its location near downtown makes it an easy green escape when you need a quick break from city life. In fall, the park transforms into a leaf-crunching paradise that will delight kids who find joy in the simple things.
Note that there are no restroom facilities here, so plan your visit accordingly. And if you catch a whiff of something delicious while visiting, that's just the Bunny Bread bakery nearby - another small detail that adds to this park's neighborhood character.
