A Slice of Neighborhood History

Tucked away at the corner of Boone Street and Mechanic Street in Fort Wayne's Nebraska Neighborhood, you can find Boone Street Playlot. Despite its modest 0.33 acres, this small retreat has been part of the neighborhood since 1969.

The park emerged during a time when Revenue Sharing programs were helping neighborhoods create their own gathering spaces, with local Neighborhood Associations playing a key role in shaping these community spots.

Fresh Fun for Everyone

In 2024, the playlot was renovated with a brand new playground. The redesigned space features inclusive play equipment thoughtfully created to support children's physical, social, and emotional development for kids aged 2 to 12.

Safety comes first with synthetic turf surfacing throughout the play area. Kids can explore climbing structures, zip down slides, soar on swings, test their balance skills, and engage with ground-level interactive elements. What makes this playground special is how it welcomes children of all abilities to join in the fun.

Far From Just a Park

This playlot provides opportunities for community interaction. The play areas are designed with social interaction in mind, helping strengthen neighborhood bonds through shared experiences. Parents and caregivers haven't been forgotten either - newly installed bench seating surrounds the playground, offering a comfortable spot to relax while keeping an eye on the little ones.

The 2024 improvements came to life through a combination of city funding and support from the AWS Foundation, which works to make Fort Wayne's parks more accessible to everyone. The 2024 upgrades at Boone Street Playlot focused on making the space more accessible for all visitors.
