Lawton Park

Historical Significance

Established in 1866, Lawton Park originally served as a site for the Indiana State Fair before transitioning into a city park. The park commemorates Major-General Henry W. Lawton with a returned cannon from the Philippines and a nearby Civil War monument.

Visitors can explore other historical elements, including monuments for Civil War veterans and the Philippine gun mount. The park also features the Lawton Greenhouse, a vital part of the Fort Wayne Parks Department where over 130,000 plants are cultivated annually for citywide use.

Covering approximately 39.33 acres, Lawton Park is located on N. Clinton Street, just north of downtown Fort Wayne. The park is easily accessible and serves as a central recreational hub for the community.
