About the Location
A Glimpse of History in the Heart of Indianapolis
Located on East 30th Street, this 5.24-acre green haven has been offering Indianapolis residents a breath of fresh air since 1970. Beckwith Memorial Park is named for Frank R. Beckwith, an Indianapolis native born in 1904 who broke significant barriers in his lifetime.
Beckwith wasn't just any local figure; he made history as the first African American to appear on an Indiana statewide general election ballot during his gubernatorial run. Walking through this park, you're literally strolling through a piece of Indiana's civil rights history.
What You'll Find Here

The walking paths weaving through the greenery offer a fantastic opportunity to get those steps in while enjoying the park's peaceful atmosphere. They're not extensive trails, but they provide just enough space to stretch your legs and clear your mind.
For those visiting with little ones, the playground is a definite highlight. It's nothing fancy, but it provides all the essential equipment for children to climb, slide, and play in a safe environment. The park truly is a community gathering spot where neighbors can connect and families can create simple, everyday memories in a tranquil urban setting.
