About Veteran's Memorial Park
A Place to Honor Heroes
Next to the mighty Mississippi River, Veteran's Memorial Park is a modest but meaningful 1-acre space in Davenport that offers something special - a quiet place to honor those who've served our country. This riverside space offers a setting for reflection or a peaceful pause to remember the sacrifices of veterans and their families.
One of the first things you'll notice is the eye-catching art mural that brings color and depth to the memorial space. The various monuments across the park tell stories of service and sacrifice, reflecting the purpose of this memorial space.
What You'll Find Here
The park offers comfortable benches where you can sit and take in the surroundings, perhaps watching the river flow by or simply enjoying a moment of quiet contemplation. Since it's positioned right along the Riverfront Trail, you can easily extend your visit into a longer riverside adventure.

One of the highlights is the Mississippi River overlook, a more recent addition that provides sweeping views of America's most iconic waterway. The view of this major waterway provides a backdrop for contemplation about service to country.
Community Heart
Behind the scenes, the Friends of Veteran's Memorial Park works alongside Davenport Parks and Recreation to care for and enhance this special place. This dedicated non-profit group plans programs honoring veterans, creates opportunities for healing from the wounds of war, and helps educate the public about veterans' contributions to American life.
Growing Through Time
The land the park occupies was previously known as Crescent Park, an undeveloped stretch of riverfront near the Crescent Rail Bridge. The Davenport City Council formally approved its transformation into a veterans memorial in January 2011, and the inaugural dedication took place on Memorial Day of that year, when three flagpoles at the entrance were unveiled.

The park has evolved considerably since those early days, with thoughtful additions appearing through multiple construction phases. Recent improvements include not just the river overlook berm but also areas of native prairie grass that bring a touch of Iowa's natural heritage to this meaningful space. Phase Two, which began in May 2022, brought the overlook to life as part of a longer-term vision that originally called for a 50-foot-high promontory berm, an observation spire, and an amphitheater - all intended to be added in stages over time.
