About the Location

Sports Galore

Spread across 69.3 acres, Felker Park gives you plenty of room to breathe and play in Topeka. This park offers lots of options for getting active and enjoying sports of all kinds.

At the heart of the park sits a 4-diamond lighted softball complex where local teams battle it out under the evening sky. Two soccer fields provide a great venue for weekend matches, while the impressive Kossover Tennis Center houses 18 beautifully maintained courts that host everything from casual games to serious USTA sectional tournaments. If you're looking for something a bit different, try your hand at the bocce ball courts available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tennis facilities at Kossover are well-maintained and have become popular with pickleball enthusiasts, especially when other courts around town are busy.

Trails to Wander

Need to clear your head? The park features two lovely trails that wind through the grounds: the Shunga Trail and the Orville Rice Nature Trail. If you're walking, running, or cycling, these paths offer a peaceful escape with wildflowers dotting the landscape in warmer months.

The eastern edge of the park connects to a nature preserve where you might spot deer gracefully bounding through the underbrush or hawks circling overhead. You can find both paved concrete sections and more rustic wooded paths, with plenty of spots to rest and take in the scenery along the way.

Beyond Sports

Felker isn't just about athletics. The park includes welcoming playgrounds where kids can climb and slide to their hearts' content, plus picnic areas excellent for family gatherings or a simple lunch outdoors. When hunger strikes during sporting events, there's a concession stand to keep everyone fueled up.

If nature calls while you're visiting, you'll come across restrooms inside the tennis center, however keep in mind they're occasionally locked. Portable toilets are available as a backup option. And yes, your four-legged friends are welcome here - the park is dog-friendly, so bring your pup along for some exercise.

The Vibe

There's something genuinely peaceful about Felker Park. Despite all the activities happening, it never feels crowded or noisy. The open layout creates a tranquil atmosphere where strangers often greet each other with a smile or friendly nod.

The spacious fields give you room to toss a frisbee or simply lie back and watch the clouds drift by. Just a heads-up though - on hot summer days, you might want to bring extra water since shade can be limited and water fountains aren't available around the grounds.

A Bit of History

Originally part of the Federal Lands to Parks program, Felker Park has deep roots in the community. Over time, it has been transformed into the versatile recreational space it is today.
