The Grant Bradbury Prairie Preserve spans 76.2 acres west of Topeka Regional Airport. This preserve is remarkable for its virgin prairie that has never been plowed, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into Kansas's native landscape.
Hundreds of native prairie species thrive here, some of which are rarely found elsewhere in the state, making this preserve an invaluable ecological treasure.
Trails and Exploration
Mowed grass trails encircle the preserve's perimeter and weave through its interior, creating approximately two miles of natural surface trails. These pathways are perfect for nature walks and wildlife observation.
Visitors can enjoy hiking and exploring this unique prairie habitat at their own pace. The trail system is designed to showcase the diverse prairie ecosystem while minimizing impact on the natural environment.
Seasonal Highlights
The prairie is particularly spectacular during June when it bursts into bloom with a variety of wildflowers. This seasonal display highlights the rich biodiversity of the preserve.
Numerous birdhouses are installed along the trails, making the preserve especially appealing to birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts throughout the year.
Access Information
The preserve can be accessed from Topeka Boulevard south to University, then by turning right on SW Westview Road. The park is open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM and closed on weekends.
