About the Location

Historic Origins

College Hill Park, located in the historic College Hill neighborhood of Wichita, Kansas, spans 22 acres and is an extensively landscaped and scenic community park. Acquired in 1925, the park's rolling, grass-covered terrain features thoughtfully placed concrete walking paths, making it ideal for leisurely strolls or exercise.

Its history includes a period as the Wichita Country Club (1901–1912) before redevelopment during the Great Depression via WPA funds, which added iconic features such as the 1937 Spanish Colonial Revival-style bathhouse near the pool.

Recreational Amenities

The park is a hub for outdoor activities and recreation, catering to individuals of all ages. It has several sports facilities, including tennis courts with night lighting, basketball/multi-use courts without lighting, and shuffleboard courts.

For families, the park provides a children's playground with slides, swings, a merry-go-round, and a base of soft sand for safety. The park's swimming pool, often regarded as one of Wichita's finest, includes separate areas such as a family pool, a mushroom waterfall, shaded shelter, and surrounding seating for relaxation.

Community Engagement

College Hill Park is also a space for community engagement, hosting events like the Dog Days of Summer, where pets are welcomed to enjoy the pool after the swimming season concludes.

Additionally, the park accommodates calmer activities, such as picnics, with a couple of picnic tables near the pool and ample grassy areas perfect for blankets. Its open green spaces and historical charm offer both relaxation and opportunities for fun, making it a cherished gathering place in Wichita.
