About the Location

Riverside Setting

Indian Hills Greenway is a scenic park located along the west bank of the Arkansas River in Wichita, Kansas. Developed in 1951, the park spans the riverbank between 9th Street and 13th Street.

It was created from the remaining land of the former Indian Hills Park area after the construction of McLean Boulevard along the river.

Part of Wichita's Recreation System

The greenway serves as part of Wichita's system of recreation corridors, connecting various parks throughout the city. It provides residents with opportunities to enjoy nature and outdoor activities close to the urban center.

A key feature of Indian Hills Greenway is a segment of the Arkansas River Bicycle Path that runs through the park. This path is part of a larger 10-mile trail system along the Arkansas River, offering cyclists and pedestrians scenic views as they travel along the waterway.

Historical Significance

The park helps fulfill the vision of L.W. Clapp, who in the 1920s sought to establish a park system that would allow Wichita citizens to enjoy nature without traveling far from home.

Today, Indian Hills Greenway contributes to the nearly 5,000 acres of parkland managed by the Wichita Department of Park and Recreation.
