About the Location
Natural Preservation
The South Arkansas River Greenway is a protected natural area along the Arkansas River in south Wichita, Kansas. This greenway was acquired by the City of Wichita in multiple parcels between 1994 and 1996.
It remains largely undeveloped, preserving the natural riverbank habitat.
Recreational Activities
The greenway offers opportunities for outdoor recreation in a secluded setting. Visitors can enjoy hiking on nature trails through the area.
The park also provides access to the Arkansas River for canoeing and kayaking. A canoe launch allows paddlers to put in their boats and explore the river.
Wildlife and Fishing
Wildlife viewing is another popular activity in the greenway. The protected natural habitat along the river attracts various bird species, making it a good spot for birdwatching.
Fishing is also permitted in the Arkansas River from the greenway.
Visitor Information
While beautiful and scenic, the South Arkansas River Greenway is quite secluded. Visitors should come prepared, as there are no bathrooms or other developed facilities on site.
The park is open from 7:02AM to 6:03PM daily.
