Broad Run Park
About Broad Run Park
Natural Beauty Awaits
On the outskirts of Louisville sits Broad Run Park, an 821.8-acre stretch of Kentucky wilderness that feels worlds away from city life. Opened in 2016 as the southernmost jewel in The Parklands of Floyds Fork system, this natural playground offers about 600 acres of diverse landscapes where you can truly disconnect and recharge.
The park's centerpiece is the winding Floyds Fork Creek, where people cool off in the shallows, cast lines for fish, or paddle kayaks through the gentle current. Look out for the park's waterfalls, tucked among lush hardwood forests and scenic viewpoints.
Hit the Trails
Regardless of whether you're a casual walker or dedicated hiker, Broad Run's network of trails has something for everyone. Challenge yourself on the aptly named Karst Climb, meander through the Lowland Plain, or explore the serene Leatherwood trail - each offering a different perspective of the park's natural beauty.
You can access the park directly from Bardstown Road or wander in from Turkey Run Park to the north. For cyclists and runners, the Louisville Loop connects Broad Run to the entire Parklands system via smooth, paved paths featuring both heart-pumping inclines and thrilling downhill stretches.
Beyond the main paths, smaller hiking trails weave through wooded areas, with forest gardens and seasonal wildflower displays along the way. Many trails offer gorgeous views of Floyds Fork Creek, with convenient access points if you're feeling the urge to dip your toes in.
Family Fun Central
The playground and splash pad area is popular with families. Kids of all ages can burn energy on various play equipment, including classic swings, climbing structures, and a crowd-favorite tire swing. On hot summer days, the adjacent splash pad provides a place for little ones to cool off. Parents appreciate that this entire area is thoughtfully fenced for added safety.
When hunger strikes, you can find picnic areas with shaded tables within the park - great for a peaceful lunch with a view or a larger family gathering. There's plenty of space for reunions and events if you're planning something special.
Nature calls? Clean restrooms are available at main areas, with portable toilets strategically placed along more remote sections of the park.
Cool Park Features
The Cliffside Center sits at the base of a cliff overlooking the southern boundary of The Parklands, offering recreational amenities and good views.
Nature lovers shouldn't miss the Moss Gibbs Woodland Garden, a quiet trail area featuring native Kentucky flora. Look for the treehouse and stone bridge along the way.
There are kayak access points along Floyds Fork Creek for easy launching. Fishing is also popular here - the quiet creek banks make for peaceful spots to cast a line and unwind.
Wild at Heart
Broad Run takes conservation seriously, with designated rewilding zones that protect and restore native habitats. While these areas are off-limits for exploration, you can still enjoy their beauty from designated viewing spots and picnic areas along the boundaries.
The park is home to diverse wildlife and is popular with birdwatchers. Different seasonal wildflowers appear throughout the year, changing the landscape with the seasons.
