Stay Safe Out There

This isn't your manicured city park - and that's part of its charm. The raw, untamed feel comes with some serious considerations. Exercise extreme caution around the falls area, as there are steep drop-offs with no railings whatsoever. The cliff edges can be particularly treacherous when wet or covered in leaves. Stick to the marked trails and if you're bringing kids along, keep them close. The untouched nature of Fairmount Falls is what makes it special, but it also means you need to take responsibility for your own safety.

Planning Your Visit

Fairmount Falls Park intentionally limits access to preserve its natural state. You'll need to secure a permit before visiting by contacting Jefferson Memorial Forest Welcome Center (by phone or email). Don't forget to ask for the gate access code when you make arrangements.

One of the most unique aspects of this hidden site is its visitor cap - only three vehicles are allowed per day. While this might seem restrictive, it practically guarantees you'll have this peaceful spot mostly to yourself. There's a single picnic table near where you'll park, but no restrooms on site, so plan accordingly.
