The Strand is the middle section that connects the northern and southern portions of The Parklands of Floyds Fork in Louisville, Kentucky. Covering an impressive 404.9 acres, this isn't just any park - it's a natural connector that brings the entire Parklands experience together.

When you explore The Strand, you'll encounter a variety of distinct landscapes including The Palisades, Walnut Grove, and Mussel Bend. You'll notice fossils forming interesting patterns throughout the park, while undergrowth extends to the banks of Floyds Fork, contributing to the area's character.

Recreational Activities

The Strand offers a tranquil setting that's excellent for walking, running, or cycling. Over five miles of the Louisville Loop wind through the park - this paved multi-use trail takes you across beautiful bridges and alongside neighboring farmlands, offering changing scenery with every mile.

If water activities are more your style, head down to Floyds Fork where you'll find a canoe launch and several fishing spots. With multiple bike paths set against stunning natural backdrops, The Strand provides a nice retreat from city life.

Trail Experience

One of the nicest things about The Strand's trails is how wonderfully flat they are - perfect if you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll, a comfortable run, or an easy bike ride. The Louisville Loop's paved paths are well-maintained, but it's good to remember trail etiquette: stay to the right, especially important since you'll be sharing the space with both cyclists and people on foot.

Beyond the paved paths, hiking trails lead down to Floyds Fork for those wanting to get closer to nature. These trails offer a more immersive experience where you might spot local wildlife going about their day.

Dog-Friendly Environment

Bringing your four-legged friend along? The Strand welcomes dogs! When walking with your pup, just keep to the right side of the trail and be mindful of others enjoying the park, particularly cyclists passing by. The flat terrain and diverse environments make this an especially enjoyable outing for both you and your canine companion.

Visitor Information

The Strand Trailhead makes an excellent starting point for your adventure, situated roughly midway through the park. You'll find all the essentials here - parking, restrooms, and drinking water - everything you need before setting off to explore. The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10PM.
