About the Location

Rich History

North Sherwood Forest Community Park spans 133.18 acres in the northern part of East Baton Rouge Parish, just before the City of Central. This family-friendly destination sits on land with a rich history, as it was once the site of the old Federal Sharp Station Depot used during World War II.

Over time, portions of the property were released by the federal government to BREC (Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge) for park development, while some areas remain federally owned and managed.

Innovative Indoor Facilities

The centerpiece of the park is the Virtual Park, an innovative exergaming facility where visitors can engage in interactive activities like climbing, cycling, and dancing through video games.

Additionally, there is a 0.15-mile indoor air-conditioned walking track, perfect for staying active year-round, and a fitness center equipped with modern exercise equipment.

Outdoor Recreation

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the park's 3-acre fishing lake, which allows bank fishing with a valid Louisiana fishing permit.

For families, the playground, splash pad, and pavilions provide ideal spots for gatherings and fun. The pavilion, available for rent, can accommodate up to 65 people, making it suitable for events like birthday parties or meetings.

Sports and Activities

Sports lovers can enjoy lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, and an unlit multi-purpose field.

The park's well-maintained walking loops, both indoor and outdoor, invite visitors to explore at their own pace.

Amenities

With amenities like free Wi-Fi, a recreation center, and clean restrooms, North Sherwood Forest Community Park combines convenience with leisure.

Continuous improvements, such as shade sails over the playground and enhanced fish habitats, demonstrate BREC's commitment to maintaining a modern and welcoming space for the community.
