Heymann Park

Situated in one of Lafayette's oldest neighborhoods, Heymann Park spreads across 28 acres of green space within the McComb-Veazey Cultural District. With rolling hills, lush greenery, and towering trees, this park provides a peaceful retreat from city life - without having to leave the city at all.

Natural Features

What makes this park special is its natural marsh-like area and a charming little micro swamp that adds some Louisiana-style ecological character to the landscape. If you wander toward the edge of the park, you'll catch some pretty views of the Vermillion River flowing by.

We love how the wide, open spaces and abundant shade trees create such a peaceful atmosphere. It's rarely packed with people, so you can actually hear yourself think - well-suited for when you need a moment of calm.

Recreational Trails

The park features a 0.5-mile jogging trail that meanders through the grounds. If you're up for a quick run or just want to stroll and clear your head, this path showcases all the natural beauty Heymann has to offer.

The trail loops around the entire park, giving you different perspectives of both the natural areas and recreational spaces as you make your way around.

Sports Facilities

Sports enthusiasts won't be disappointed here. The park is equipped with lighted tennis courts (complete with a hitting wall for solo practice), a regulation-size baseball field, and outdoor basketball courts. The variety of courts and fields accommodates several different sports.

Disc Golf Course

A notable feature is the 18-hole disc golf course. If you're into disc golf, the unique layout offers long, open drives - six holes stretch over 400 feet, giving ample space for distance throws.

The course isn't without its challenges, though. Those sprawling oak trees create some tricky low ceilings that'll test your skills. Each hole offers something different, which keeps the game interesting no matter how many times you play.

Community Gathering Spaces

Need a spot for your next family reunion or birthday celebration? The park has a full-size pavilion with barbecue pits and restrooms (just remember you'll need to reserve it ahead of time). This spacious, shaded structure works well for group gatherings.
