About Temple Street Park

A Historic Pocket Park

Situated in Boston's charming Beacon Hill neighborhood, Temple Street Park is a tiny urban green space that packs a lot of character into its modest 0.06 acres (0.024 hectares). Located at the corner of Temple and Derne Streets, this small space provides a moment of tranquility amid the city bustle.

The park is officially owned by the City of Boston, with ongoing maintenance supported through partnerships with local residents and community organizations.

From Campus to Community Space

This wasn't always a public park. The land originally belonged to Suffolk University before being transformed into a community space in the early 2000s. In 2002, a collaborative agreement between Suffolk University, the Beacon Hill Civic Association, the Beacon Hill Garden Club, Boston's Parks and Recreation Department, and Temple Street residents transferred the land to the city for everyone to enjoy.

In 2006, the park got a makeover thanks to funding from Suffolk University, the City of Boston, and the Temple Street Association. This team effort helped create the peaceful urban retreat you see today.

People Power

One of the most heartwarming aspects of this space is how the community has embraced it. In 2018, dedicated locals formed the Friends of Temple St Park group to help with ongoing care and beautification. Their volunteer efforts ensure this local favorite continues to thrive for years to come.

A Neighborhood Haven

In a city where green space is precious, Temple Street Park offers a quiet spot to catch your breath, read a book, or simply enjoy a moment of calm. Sitting directly across from the Archer Residences luxury condominiums, it represents a central gathering point for the neighborhood.

The design thoughtfully balances Beacon Hill's historic character with practical modern amenities, creating a space that feels both timeless and useful. Though small in size, the park has become an important green space in this corner of Boston.
