Logan Field
About Logan Field
A Piece of Worcester History
Nestled on Mill Street in Worcester, Logan Field spreads across 11.2 acres of community space with a rich backstory. Acquired in 1928 from the trustees of Speedway Glens, the park pays tribute to James Logan - a former Worcester mayor who served four terms and championed the playground movement long before outdoor recreation became mainstream.
Play Ball!
At the heart of Logan Field stands the Babe Ruth baseball field, built in 2000 and named in honor of Marshall I. Silverman. A Worcester local through and through, Silverman poured 32 years of his life into youth baseball - coaching Jesse Burkett Little League teams and managing the West Side Babe Ruth League with dedication that shaped generations of young players.
Baseball isn't the only game in town here. The park's softball field has earned quite a reputation among local players. It's considered a good softball field that attracts teams for both casual games and competitive tournaments.
Into the Woods
If you're more inclined toward nature than athletics, you're in luck. Logan Field represents the gateway to the Blue Square Trail, which winds its way to God's Acre and Tetasset Ridge. These hiking paths offer a peaceful escape from city life without having to venture far from Worcester's borders.
The wooded areas surrounding the park create perfect walking routes that welcome four-legged friends too. Just remember to keep your dog leashed when you're outside the athletic fields - your pup will still have plenty of interesting scents and pathways to investigate.
The Practical Stuff
Situated in Worcester's District 5, Logan Field comes equipped with the essentials you'd expect from a neighborhood park. Basketball courts provide another sporting option, while basic restroom facilities - including a building and portable toilets near first base of the baseball field - handle the necessities.
Parking is available along Mill Street, although it can feel a bit awkward with the adjacent bike lane. Despite this minor quirk, the park remains easily accessible for locals looking to enjoy sports, nature, or simply a breath of fresh air away from the bustle of city life.
