About the Location

Park Overview

Tucked away off Verle Avenue in the southeast corner of Ann Arbor sits Pilgrim Park, a cozy 1.5-acre green space that proves good things come in small packages. Just west of Platt Road, this modest neighborhood park offers a peaceful retreat for locals looking to escape without traveling far from home.

While it may not be sprawling, what Pilgrim Park lacks in size it makes up for in charm and maintenance. The clean, well-kept grounds have earned it something of a "secluded area" status among residents in the know.

Play Area

Kids will find plenty to keep them entertained at the playground structure, which features three different slides for varying thrill levels and a crawl-through tube great for imaginative adventures. Little ones can also enjoy the tic-tac-toe board and pretend to navigate the high seas with a steering wheel mounted at ground level.

The play space is rounded out with classic swings and a sandbox that's particularly popular with younger children. While everything is perfectly functional, we should mention the equipment has a somewhat nostalgic (read: dated) look that could use some refreshing.

Recreation Options

If you're looking to get your steps in, the small walking path includes helpful distance markers that make tracking your exercise a breeze. It's fantastic for a quick jog or a leisurely stroll when you don't have time for a more extensive outing.

This park embraces simplicity, and while it doesn't offer the extensive amenities of larger parks, its clean, accessible nature makes it a good neighborhood destination for a quick outdoor break.

Amenities

Scattered across the grounds are picnic tables and benches that, however showing their age with some weathering, provide welcome spots to rest or enjoy a sandwich in the fresh air. The mature trees create pockets of shade that are absolutely essential on those hot Michigan summer days.

Note that there aren't any public restrooms available, which is something to keep in mind if you're planning more than a short visit. But for a quick playground session or a moment of green space tranquility, Pilgrim Park works well for neighborhood visits.
