About the Location

A Historic Splash in the City

At the heart of this urban oasis sits Brennan Pool, the only outdoor public pool in all of Detroit. Built way back in 1929, this aquatic landmark got a fresh face in 2014 after undergoing some much-needed renovations.

When summer heat blankets the city, Brennan Recreation Area comes alive with activity. You can jump into swimming lessons, get your heart pumping in water aerobics classes, or simply enjoy a refreshing dip during recreational swimming hours.

Beyond a Pool

What makes this place special is how it provides affordable aquatic fun right in the middle of the city. Beyond the cool blue waters, you'll come across additional recreational facilities and green spaces to enjoy.

The recreation area is actually part of the expansive Rouge Park complex, which is one of Detroit's largest public parks.

Looking Ahead

Exciting changes are on the horizon for Brennan Recreation Area. Plans are underway for a massive 25,000+ square foot community center that will neighbor the pool. This addition is funded by a $20 million donation from Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores' Family Foundation and will provide indoor recreational options for the Cody-Rouge neighborhood.
