Park History
Sweet Street Park is a small public park located in the Creston neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Situated at the corner of Sweet Street and College Avenue NE, the park is adjacent to Grand Rapids City High School.
Originally built in 1972 as part of the expansion of Creston High School, the park has since undergone several renovations and improvements.
Community Revitalization
In 2009, the park was revitalized through a community effort led by the Creston Neighborhood Association in partnership with KaBOOM! and Amway Corporation. Over 200 volunteers came together to build a new playground, breathing new life into this community space.
The park now serves as a gathering place for local families and residents, offering a mix of recreational amenities and green space.
Features and Amenities
One of the park's notable features is a specially designed bench for sunset viewing, providing visitors with a serene spot to enjoy the evening sky. The park is surrounded by large oak trees, which offer ample shade throughout the area, making it a comfortable place to spend time during warmer months.
Neighborhood Context
Sweet Street Park's location near City High School and the historic Kent Country Club (Michigan's oldest golf club) places it in a unique setting that bridges different aspects of Grand Rapids' community life.
