About the Location

A Riverside Cultural Hub

Situated in downtown Rochester, Minnesota, Mayo Park spans 11 acres where community, entertainment, and recreation come together. Back in 1919, Dr. Charles Mayo and his wife, Edith gifted this land to the public - a decision that's been enriching Rochester ever since. With its peaceful setting along the Zumbro River and its neighbor the Rochester Art Center, the park offers a little touch of calm amid the city bustle.

You can find some pretty significant landmarks here, including the Mayo Civic Center, the Rochester Civic Theatre, and the Mayo Memorial. History buffs will appreciate the thoughtful statues of the Mayo Clinic founders and their father that honor Rochester's medical heritage.

Entertainment and Events

During summer evenings, the park hosts the "Down by the Riverside" free concert series. From pop and classic rock to country, R&B, and hip-hop - there's something for every musical taste. These concerts have become a local tradition, and if you get hungry, food trucks are usually parked nearby with plenty of refreshment options.

For outdoor time, Mayo Park offers an open play field, paved walking trails, and a playground for children.

Community Spaces and Recreation

Need a spot for a small gathering or just a quiet lunch? The park has picnic areas with tables, benches, and shelters suitable for both planned meet-ups and impromptu breaks. The paved paths aren't just great for a leisurely stroll; they connect to Rochester's larger trail network, making it easy to explore more of the city on foot, jogging, or by bike.

Dog parents take note: your four-legged friends are welcome here. The pet-friendly trails offer plenty of space to walk your pup while taking in some nice city views.

Scenic Urban Retreat

While Mayo Park isn't massive, its modest size works in its favor, creating an intimate space for short walks and moments of reflection. There's something special about watching the river flow by, especially with the well-kept grounds providing such a pleasant contrast to the surrounding urban landscape.

With its blend of culture, history, and everyday recreation, Mayo Park is a pleasant outdoor space enjoyed by both locals and visitors.
