About the Location

A Bit of History & Where to Find It

Tucked away in Kansas City's North Park District, Cooley Park has been a local green haven since 1957. This 18-acre public space has a distinctive character, with a creek cutting right through the middle. On the west side, you'll find flat, open fields meant for activities, while the east side offers more varied terrain with sloping landscapes.

Natural Beauty

One of the first things you'll notice about Cooley is its generous green spaces that seamlessly blend natural beauty with room for outdoor fun. The creek isn't just a pretty feature - it creates diverse little ecosystems throughout the park that are worth exploring on a nice day.

The grassy areas are well-maintained and particularly popular for soccer games, but they're versatile enough for whatever outdoor activity strikes your fancy.

Things to Do

Cooley Park is one of those places that doesn't try to be everything but does what it does quite well. It's an ideal spot whether you're looking to relax, play, or get some exercise in the fresh air. The family-friendly layout makes it suitable for visitors of all ages.

There are several picnic areas where you can enjoy an outdoor meal or small gathering. The park's design thoughtfully includes different zones for sitting, walking, and running, so you can easily find your own little corner depending on what you're in the mood for.

Recent Upgrades

If you haven't visited in a while, you might be pleasantly surprised by some changes. Cooley recently went through a master plan renovation that's given it some nice upgrades. The gathering areas have been expanded, there's a new trail system to explore, and kids will appreciate the enlarged playground with updated equipment.

These improvements have enhanced the park while still keeping its natural charm intact.

Good to Know Before You Go

One thing to note - there aren't any public restrooms available at the park. Also, you might want to bring along a small bag for any trash, especially if you're planning to use the playground area. A little effort goes a long way in keeping this community space beautiful for everyone.
