About Jacob L. Loose Memorial Park
A Walk Through History
Set in the heart of Kansas City, Jacob L. Loose Memorial Park spans a generous 75 acres, making it the third largest park in the city. You'll come across this green oasis at 51st Street and Wornall Road, where history and nature blend seamlessly.
This park has historical significance as the site of the 1864 Battle of Westport during the Civil War. As you wander the grounds, you'll notice markers scattered throughout, silent storytellers of the conflicts that once unfolded here.

Stop and Smell the Roses
The Rose Garden is one of the park's highlights. Established in 1931 by the Kansas City Rose Society, this 1.5-acre floral haven showcases around 3,000 roses in nearly 130 varieties.
The garden's concentric circle design, complemented by limestone and timber pergolas, creates a picture-perfect setting that draws couples for weddings and photographers seeking the ideal backdrop. If you can time your visit for late May or early June, you'll catch the roses at their blooming best - a truly spectacular sight.
ADTom's Town Distillery Tour and Tasting
Whether you're visiting KC or were born and bred in Tom's Town, we'd love to show you around! Tours last an hour and include a look at our distilling process, a brief overview of Kansas City history during Boss Tom's rule, and a tasting of each of our award winning spirits.
Lakeside Serenity
The park's tranquil lake offers a peaceful escape from city life, complete with charming arched bridges and gentle fountains. Keep an eye out for the colorful koi fish swimming below the surface and the various waterfowl that call this place home - you'll likely spot ducks, geese, and even turtles sunning themselves.
There's plenty of seating around the water, making this a fantastic spot to sit back, relax, and simply observe nature doing its thing. It's no wonder families gravitate to this serene spot.
Cultural Touches
For a touch of international flair, check out the Japanese Tea Room and Garden, which stands as a beautiful symbol of friendship between Kansas City and its sister city, Kurashiki, Japan.
The Loose Park Garden Center offers horticultural exhibits and community spaces, while Civil War markers around the grounds provide fascinating glimpses into the park's historical significance.
Getting Active
Feeling energetic? A 1.5-mile walking trail loops around the park's perimeter, ideal for a morning jog or an evening stroll. The sprawling lawns provide space under the shade of mature trees for picnics or relaxing afternoons.
The park includes various recreational facilities as well. You'll come across well-maintained tennis courts, a fantastic playground with climbing walls and swings for kids of all ages, and a popular splash pad that's a lifesaver during Kansas City's hot summers.
Stone tables and benches are scattered throughout, offering picnic spots in both sunny and shaded areas. Planning a larger gathering? The park's shelter house is available for reservation.
